Intro to new book....

“All blood bleeds red, what determines if you live or die is how fast it comes out. Many years have passed since I watched her die. Not sure if she was ready to go or gave up. Either way, she was dead.  You my dear, have a whole life ahead of you and death is not in your near future, for now anyway.” She smiled and looked  into my eyes with a deep sadness radiating from within.

Ava May sat in her rocking chair gazing out the nursing home window. She spends time reminiscing and warming  her rail thin body with a cream crochet blanket. On the one brown wooden dresser sit perfectly placed photos from her youth. Marilyn Monroe good looks and regal nature are present in all of them. Ava refers to her facial lines as “experience traces left by time”. Behind the hazy blue eyes and silver streaked hair are stories of a girl growing up in a small southern military town surrounded by scandals. Things are not always easy but the past teaches you lessons only the future can see.

I was her health aide and upon meeting, it felt like we had known each other for years. From that moment forward, my time with her was a lesson in womanhood. This chance meeting was an unexpected gift now leading me though life.
